Respect the Family Educational to Privacy Act of 1974 FEPA, which is a Federal Law, designed to protect the privacy of student's educational records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program from the US Department of Education.

The FEPA Law gives certain rights to parents regarding their children educational records. These rights transfer to the student or former student who has reached the age of 18 or is attending any school above the high-school level. The act ensures that parent or eligible students have the right to inspect and review a student's educational records and request that a school correct records that are believed to be inaccurate or misleading. Employees, including faculty must have a written permission from the parents or eligible student before releasing information from a student's records. However the Law allows schools to disclose records without consent to the following party. If someone wants to request information from a student's record, notify the School Educational Director, Ruth Hicks. Do not discuss performance of eligible student with family members without written permission consent from eligible student even if it seems harmless. Regardless of what, notify the Educational Director, Ruth Hicks. You are not authorized to disclose educational records such as grades, or attendance, even to family members, without authorization from eligible student. Have a sincere positive attitude toward your subject matter. If you do not have a passion for the field of cosmetology education and a compassion for your students, you should pursue another career avenue.

What does your passion and compassion mean to you as an educator?

  •  Build a Bank of Poise. Smile and shrug off awkward moments. You put others at ease when you show that you do not take yourself seriously.
  •  Make the best of what you have. No one has everything. Count your blessings and realize that you have time and energy to give to the students.
  •  Don't hold grudges. Life can be wasted by spending time on negative things. Don't pass those negative feeling to others. People avoid negative people.
  •  Do not live in fear. What's going to happen tomorrow, next week, or next year, learn to live on day at a time. Stay calm and cheerful.
  •  Focus on the future rather than the pass. Let go of mistakes. Learn what you can do to correct them in the future.
  •  Avoid sarcasm at someone else expense. It just relays the message that you are dissatisfied with yourself. Don't build our ego at the expense of others. Share pleasing remarks and random acts of kindness.
  •  Don't be critical. Never judge others until you've walked in their shoes.
  •  Do not insist on having the last word. You may get more respect by holding your peace and allowing the other person to think about what they just said. Some things are better left unsaid. With faith and self-confidence things will work out in the long run.
  •  No pity party. Do not act out of control (ever).
    •  No invitation
    •  No RSVP
